I not meaning to come off as an ass but you do know that an Android and a IDevice can do what your asking with a lower price tag? Yes, an updated OS as well, food for thought.
and?
I have a ipad and iphone, I just want something I can play with and use the gps when I'm out with my guide dog.
If someone wants to buy one and is willing to pay for it then its there money to throw away, don't you think ?
Hi,
The Pac Mate user list has a number of Pac mates without and with GPS's for sale. just do a google search for it and subscribe and post what you're looking for to the list. One lady has a GPS for sale and a few other people have Pac mates for sale. You might be able to get all you want from a few different people. As for me, I have two Executive Products cases for a Pac mate 440. i'd be happy to sell you one. I have a QX that I don't use and would be happy to sell you that, except I have a potential buyer for that and one of the Executive products cases. I have a BX as well, which I bought from someone off the Pac Mate user list and have been very happy with it. I bought the GpS myself and use it and the bar code scanner all the time. plus read books on it and write documents.
Take Care,
Dawnielle
Thanks for the information I'll try that.
With the hardware so "out dated" are people seling for a reasonable price ?
thanks
There's no reason one couldn't use one of these devices for all that you're wanting to. Documents and Excel you get for free with the PAC Mate. I wonder if users can get updated maps for their StreetTalk GPS? Most of that would be changes in points of interest probably but still would be nice to know for users needing that.
I rememeber in a news feed about Sendero 2013 and CSUN 2013 that there may have been a special upgrade pricing for street talk vip
Now if the PAC mate could play NLS
FS I bet could make the changes but may not be enough demand.
And they probably couldn't make many changes; nobody's working on anything as far as I can tell (no updates in the last four years?)
they could at least update it to 6.5 for a few changes.
and as far as NLS now that I think about it I dount there's enough flash storag.
I know HIMS slips the storage into two parts, where the UAC for NLS and RFB&D keys are.
then again - VR stream doesn't have intral memory so there must be a way to do it.
I wouldn't know I'm not a techie
It has a little. Enough to store the keys, at least. If you used CF cards. Also, you could check blindbargains.com and find many people selling pacmates.
yeah I've looked
I want to find one with street talk VIP
one guy replied and had one with alot of extras but wanted $550 at lowest
maybe $400 but not that much
its just for when my desktop wants to be a pain and using the GPS
I don't know what you consider a reasonable price. 700 or better with the GPS is still a really reasonable price, in my opinion. Considering that the GPS itself retails for $1600. And no, the maps haven't been updated since 2008, but you can add favorites in and things of that nature to compinsate for that.
Take Care,
Dawnielle
what I consider a reasonable price is $500 at most, since the hardware and gps are discontinued.
I paid $700 for a voice sense qwerty in 2011 and $1000 for a 30gb icon with docking station.
I was ripped off at the time and diddn't know any better fir the Icon with dock. As far as the Voice sense qwerty good little device and is still maintained by HIMS.
If I could sell my voice sense qwerty for at least $600 even if the keyboard needs to be replaced I'd jump at anyone willing to buy it.
I think there's someone wanting to sell her software and such for $500 on the PM user list.
That's one thing I dont get. How is it that FS is still selling the PAC Mate
at such high prices. Aren't they ever gonna come out with better hardware/software in a new note taking solution?
It seems so old school, even compared to the note taking devices such as the Braille Note Apex and others running Windows CE. At least the other companies have done updates to the software and hardware.
Onestly, I was not poking fun at the poster of this board but don't you feel sorta ripped off from FS because of a dead OS and windows 6.0 was giving its "dead man walking" papers awhile back!. Just food for thought take care.
I dont care so much that its Windows 6.0. That's not the part that bothers me. The part that bugs me is that even the other notetakers running Windows 6.0 has managed to put better hardware and software in there devices, so its not like it can't be done. FS though hasn't done this, and in fact from what I've seen hasn't updated the product in about 4 years. How is it that it still sells so well when everybody has past them in every aspect IMO ?
